S&M was released in 1999 and was a different kind of Metallica's album. They recorded a double-live greatest hits package with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. Some of the die hard fans had doubts about the sucess of S&M, but they proved them wrong with good sales and acceptance from the majority of fans.
